Glenn Zaleski And The Owl Trio
When: Monday, July 20, 8pm
Where: ShapeShifter Lab, 18 Whitewell Place between 1st and Carroll Streets
What: Stop by ShapeShifter Lab for some solo piano and chamber jazz by Glen Zaleski and The Owl Trio, who have explored the outer reaches of the American Songbook, as well as compositions by Herbie Hancock, John Coltrane, Jim Hall, and Brazilian legend Guinga.

Tropical Vortex Mondays

Where: Barbés, 376 9th Street at 6th Avenue
What: Every Monday, Tropical Vortex showcases bands and DJs who specialize in variations on Tropical sounds from Latinolandia and elsewhere. This week: YOTOCO. The spunky incarnation of a musical love triangle between Umoja Orchestra, Bioritmo, and Cumbiagra.Yotoco plays a melange of Salsa, Afro-Cuban Rumba, Boleros, and Cumbia.
How much: $10 (strongly) suggested donation.

A Squirrels Stories Audio Portrait Listening Event
When: Tuesday, July 21, 7pm
Where: Central Library, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: Neighbor Jamie Courville shares stories she has collected from those suffering from cancer, because we are terrible at talking about disease and dying. Come listen to the stories she has collected and start the conversation.
How much: Free.

Knights Of Bruklyn Quarterly Home Brew Competition
When: Tuesday, July 21, 7pm
Where: Union Hall, 702 Union Street near 5th Avenue
What: Come sample some of the best stove top brews around. Three judges from the city’s beer elite choose the top three brews in this quarterly competition.
How much: Free.

Plaza Swing Series: Brain Cloud
When: Wednesday, July 22, 6:30pm
Where: Central Library, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: Come swing to the Western swing of Brain Cloud in Grand Army Plaza. Their blend of American southern roots music and old-timey jazz features hot picking, hard swinging and the inimitable vocals of Tamar Korn. Dance lessons are at 6:30pm and the music starts at 7pm.

Summer Movie Under the Stars
When: Wednesday, July 22, 7pm
Where: Long Meadow, Prospect Park
What: Come watch a free movie on the Long Meadow of Prospect Park along with Borough President Eric Adams. This week’s movie is E.T. the Extra Terrestrial.

What: Come watch a free viewing of Space Captain: Captain of Space, a film by Lindsey Sproul. Set in the innocent black-and-white world of 1930’s serial adventure stories like Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers, Space Captain: Captain of Space is a modern, smart sci-fi comedy.
