Don’t wait until the weekend for a little neighborhood fun! With everything from comedy, lectures by an English funeral planner, and two punk bands, there’s plenty going on in Park Slope this week. Below are some of our favorite events from around the area.

For even more things to do around Brooklyn, and to add your own upcoming events (some of which we’ll feature in this roundup in the future!), check out our calendar.

StarBenders and Desert Sharks
When: Monday, August 31, 7:30pm
Where: The Rock Shop, 294 4th Avenue, between Carroll and President Streets
What: Kimi Shelter and her gang StarBenders have concocted the perfect alchemic blend of rock and roll power with “stuck in your brain” pop melodies. Desert Sharks is an all-female garage punk band from NYC.
How much: $10, tickets available here.

Library Movie Time
When: Tuesday, September 1, 1:30-3:15pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue at 9th Street
What: Take a break from the heat at Park Slope Library’s Tuesday movie afternoon, where Eggs and Winnifred take on Archibald Snatcher in The Boxtrolls.
How much: Free, but tickets are required for entry (one per family), be sure to arrive early.

Death Cafe
When: Tuesday, September 1, 6-8pm
Where: Morbid Anatomy Museum, 424 3rd Avenue at 7th Street
What: Discuss death and dying over coffee and cake with an English Funeral Planner. Known in America as “the Mary Poppins of Death,” Louise de Winter has been encouraging Brooklyn to talk about death this summer with a series of Death Cafes at the Morbid Anatomy Museum. Attendees will be invited to discuss all matters of death, dying, life and living in a safe and relaxed environment over coffee and cake. “It’s a very respectful group, inquisitive and unafraid,” said one attendee at the last gathering on July 31.
How much: Free.

Sasheer Zamata Pizza Party Time (with special guests)
When: Wednesday, September 2, 8:00pm (Doors) and 8:30 (Show)
Where: Union Hall, 702 Union Street, at 5th Avenue
What: Sasheer Zamata (Saturday Night Live, This American Life) likes to party, spend time with friends and do shows. Watch her do all three of those things at the same time! There will be laughter, merriment, and probably a lot of booze. And free pizza by Williamsburg Pizza. Get there early to get it hot!
How much: $10, tickets available here. This event will be mixed seated/standing. Arrive early for best seat selection.
