The Brain Cloud
When: Monday, August 3, 7pm
Where: Barbes, 376 9th Street near 6th Avenue
What: Make your way to Barbes on Monday night and let Brain Cloud serenade you with their Bob Wills inspired “New Orleans-meets-Texas, strings-meet-horns, jazz-meets-country sound.” It’s great stuff.
How much: $10 (strongly) suggested donation.
Hot Seat! No Story Is Ordinary
When: Tuesday, August 4, 7pm
Where: Littlefield, 622 Degraw Street
What: Hot Seat! is a new show from the producers of Mortified’s New York City chapter which employs improv and storytelling techniques to interview “regular” people, live on stage. The mission of this new show is to illustrate that no one is ordinary and we all have a stories to tell. Participants will sign up pre-show and are randomly selected to be interviewed by a panel of “interrogators.”

National Night Out Against Crime
When: Tuesday, August 4, 5pm
Where: Grand Army Plaza
What: Come meet the 78th Precinct! National Night Out’s purpose is to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness and to send a message to criminals letting them know our neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. The evening includes family activities, food and more.
How much: Free.
Plaza Swing Series: Regional de New York
When: Wednesday, August 5, 6:30pm
Where: Central Library, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: The quintet, Regional de New York, plays traditional and original arrangements of Brazil’s oldest popular music – choro— with deep groove and a love for improvisation. Dancing lessons are at 6:30pm and the music starts at 7pm.
How much: Free.
Geeks Who Drink Pub Quiz
When: Wednesday, August 5, 7pm
Where: The Rock Shop, 249 4th Avenue
What: Better than your regular trivia night, the Geeks Who Drink Pub Quiz burns through nearly 70 multimedia questions in two exciting hours. The quizmaster gets to know the players, and smack talk flying around in all directions is pretty much par for the course. Top teams win gift certificates to the bar.

Summer Movie Under The Stars
When: Wednesday, August 5, 7-11pm
Where: Prospect Park, Long Meadow North
What: Nothing says summer like movies in the park! Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams and the Prospect Park Alliance present screenings of family films every Wednesday on Long Meadow. Entertainment begins at 7pm, and the movies will start after sunset. May the odds be ever in your favor as you try and find a stellar seat at this week’s showing of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1.
