Park Slope Planner: The Best Events October 4-7

Thursday, October 4

• The final tour of Willem Breuker Kollektief, which features ten musicians/improvisers and which has been on the road for 38 years, lands at ShapeShifter Lab (18 Whitwell Place) at 8pm.

Friday, October 5

• If you like surfy rock music and Lucha Libre masks, Los Straightjackets are for you. They’ll be at The Bell House (149 7th Street) with the equally surfy and just as masked Daddy-O Grande, doors at 8pm.

• After the show, test your own vocals (and dance moves) at Karaoke Killed the Cat. It’s at Union Hall (702 Union St) at midnight, but you’ll have to bring your own wrestling mask.

Saturday, October 6

• At one point during the Kings County Fiber Festival, knitting and yoga will come together. See how that works, plus do some yarn shopping, check out spinning and children’s knitting demonstrations, and more at the Old Stone House from 10am-6pm.

• If the yoga makes a healthy impression, head over to the Park Slope YMCA (357 9th Street), where they’re having an open house from 12-4pm, and make use of the $0 joiner’s fee through October 8. And bring the kids along – the YMCA’s hosting a “worldwide day of play” as well.

Sunday, October 7

• Like history and delicious treats? Taste test snacks from Mrs. Lefferts’ cookbook, which is circa the 1800s, at the Lefferts Historic House in Prospect Park, 1-4pm.
