The weather is warming up and the subways are going to be disagreeable, which makes it a pretty great weekend to stick around Park Slope and enjoy some local events:
Writing War: Fiction And Memoir By Veterans
When: Thursday, November 14, 8pm
Where: The Old Stone House, 336 3rd Street
What: Brooklyn Reading Works presents a discussion on writing about war curated by Peter Catapano featuring Phil Klay, Kevin R. McPartland, Maurice Emerson Decaul, Lynn Hill, and Matthew Mellina,
How much: $5 donation includes snacks and wine
PS 372 Harvest Dance
When: Friday, November 15, 6:30-9pm
Where: The Children’s School Gym, 512 Carroll Street
What: The evening promises tasty international foods, live music by Ann Murphy and Celtic Rhythm, and Haitian drummer Jean Mary Brignol. Dances will be taught by PS 372 artists, too, so make sure you’ve got those dancing shoes ready.
How Much: Advanced tickets are $12 for individuals, $40 for a family of 4; at the door, $15 for individuals, $45 for a family of 4. Proceeds benefit the school’s new dance floor.
Head On: Cut Copy Vs. LCD Soundsystem
When: Friday, November 15, 10pm
Where: The Bell House, 149 7th Street
What: DJs Brian Blackout and Spoolwork will each square off with armloads of songs by each band, pit them head to head, and you’ll decide who wins by dancing, yelling, and going as nuts as you can. And then spend the rest of the night dancing to the winner (and more indie faves).

Brooklyn Free Space Stoop Sale
When: Saturday, November 16, 12-4pm
Where: Brooklyn Free Space, 298 6th Avenue
What: If you’re looking for baby and toddler items like clothing, games, and gear for kids up to age 4, this is the sale to check out.
How much: Free to look, inexpensive to shop, and all proceeds benefit families at the school in need of financial aid.
BAX Open Studio Series
When: Saturday, November 16 & Sunday, November 17, performances begin at 1pm
Where: BAX, 421 5th Avenue
What: The BAX Artists in Residence are opening their studio doors this weekend, but the audience won’t just be a casual observer. “Open Studio Showings include a moderated Q&A period where the audience’s observations and the artist’s intentions are explored.”
How much: Tickets are free, but be sure to RSVP on the BAX website
Robicelli’s: A Love Story, With Cupcakes
When: Sunday, November 17, 1pm
Where: Central Library, Information Commons Lab, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: Wife and husband Allison and Matt Robicelli started their cupcake business on a dream and $30 worth of borrowed quarters, and now in their cookbook they whip up not just tasty recipes, but also the secrets of their success and their love. Meet them, and hope for samples!

BAM150 Screening
When: Sunday, November 17, 5pm
Where: Barbès, 376 9th Street
What: This documentary provides a captivating history of the nation’s oldest performing arts center, which mirrors the evolution of performing arts in 20th century America. Screening followed by a Q&A with director Michael Sladek.
How much: $5 suggested donation
