Yay, short work-week! If you’re already ready to get right back to the weekend, we’ve got some fun stuff to do starting tonight, from a big food event to karaoke, and from a chance to learn to tango to an improv workshop. Details on those, and more, events below.

Dollars To Degrees: Funding Your Child’s Education
When: Thursday, May 28, 6-7:30pm
Where: Park Slope Library, 431 6th Avenue
What: We all know college is expensive (really expensive), but financial planner and wealth advisor, Mina Black’s, Thursday workshop should help ease some of your anxiety. Black will discuss “ways to pay for college using saving plans, financial aid, work study, and loans as well as the differences and advantages between different college savings vehicles.”

What: For those who’ve got a song in their heart, and possibly a beer in their belly.

Shape Up NYC: Cardio Toning
When: Friday, May 29, 12pm
Where: Audubon Center, Prospect Park
What: Shape up your core with a free cardio class in Prospect Park that will combine strength, balance, and toning exercises. No reservation is required, but it is recommended that you bring a workout mat.
How much: Free!

Lola Star’s Dreamland Roller Disco
When: Friday, May 29, 7:30pm
Where: LeFrak Center, Lakeside
What: If you ever dreamed of joining the Brat Pack, your moment has arrived. This week’s Dreamland Roller Disco is all about that ’80s goddess Molly Ringwald, so you’ll definitely want to bust out those feather bangs and shoulder pads! Note that admission is restricted to guests ages 21 and older. For more information, or to buy tickets in advance, visit the Dreamland website.
How much: $18 (includes admission and skate rental).

Tango Workshops
When: Saturday, May 30, 10am-12pm
Where: Central Library, Dweck Center, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: Learn the fundamentals of one of a dramatic dance at this fun, informal series from the IATI Theater. Lessons are in English and Spanish, and there are two sessions: 10-11am is for beginners, and 11am-12pm is for advanced dancers.
How much: Free, but space is limited, so arrive early, and bring your library card for admission.

Shape Up NYC: Cardio Sculpt
When: Saturday, May 30, 11am
Where: Audubon Center, Prospect Park
What: Build endurance and strength with this exercise class focusing on cardio and sculpting moves.
How much: Free!

New Films From China
When: Saturday, May 30, 1pm & 4pm; Sunday, May 31, 1pm & 4pm
Where: Central Library, Dweck Center, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: This weekend, check out some of the great cinema that’s been coming out of China recently. First up on Saturday at 1pm is A Cherry on a Pomegranate Tree, then at 4pm is Back to 1942. On Sunday, catch The Stolen Years at 1pm; and finally at 4pm see I Am a Genius.
How much: Free!

Leo Sidran
When: Saturday, May 30, 8pm
Where: Barbes, 376 9th Street
What: Hear the multi-instrumentalist, producer, and composer perform songs from his new solo album “Mucho Leo,” which blends jazz, latin, soul, and songwriter influences.
How much: $10 strongly suggested donation.

Workshop: Improv For Poets and Geniuses
When: Sunday, May 31, 3-6pm
Where: Union Hall, 702 Union Street
What: This drop-in class for people with all levels of improv experience is geared toward, well, everyone — they come to it with the idea that improv can be used as a “tool for getting others to know what you are about and whether they want to work with you, in any field.”
How much: $10 suggested donation; you must sign up in advance.
