Park Slope Planner: The Best Events May 1-4
Should be a great weekend to get out and enjoy events around the neighborhood, and there are some good ones coming up! If you’re looking for something to do close to home, enjoy bingo for a chance to win concert tickets, free Pilates, a clothing swap, free comic book day, a Kentucky Derby viewing party, and more:
Park Slope Bingo Club
When: Thursday, May 1, 8-11pm
Where: Union Hall, 702 Union Street
What: Stamp those cards for a chance to win drinks, show tickets, and cold hard cash. There will be multiple games through the night, and you can buy in with a $5 pack of cards anytime.
How much: Free to enter, $5 to play
Shape Up NYC: Pilates
When: Friday, May 2, 12pm to 1pm
Where: Prospect Park Audubon Center
What: Shape up and have fun in Prospect Park. This introductory class to the Pilates method utilizes conditioning exercises that help to create length in the body, and improve flexibility and strength. The class is open to adults and seniors. No registration is required, but they do ask that you bring your own mat.
How much: Free.
Park Slope Parents Clothing Swap
When: Saturday, May 3, 10am-noon
Where: The Old Stone House, 336 3rd Street
What: Bring clean, gently used toddler, big kid clothing, books, maternity items, strollers, etc. (but no toys!) to swap, and then you can look through other people’s items, organized by size and gender when possible, and you take as much as you brought. And see additional Spring Fling events taking place on Saturday here!
How much: $5 for members of Park Slope Parents, and $10 for non-members.
Grand Opening Of The Modern Chemist
When: Saturday, May 3, 10am-6pm
Where: The Modern Chemist,191 4th Avenue
What: Welcome the new pharmacy to 4th Avenue! Everything in the store will be 25%, plus they’ll have raffles on full-size products, goodie bags with product samples, free blood pressure and blood sugar readings, cold pressed juice tastings, and beauty line demos.

Free Comic Book Day
When: Saturday, May 3, 12pm-closing
Where: Bergen Street Comics, 470 Bergen Street
What: It comes just once a year! From Spider-Man to Archie, Mega Man, and Uncle Scrooge, they’ve been greedily getting the books set up and ready for weeks, and will be handing them out just as fast as they can. And swing by at 7pm for a book signing by cartoonist Luke Pearson!

Secrets Of Prospect Park Tour
When: Saturday, May 3, 12pm
Where: Meet at the Prospect Park entrance at Prospect Park West and Union Street
What: Join Forgotten New York for a 3-hour romp through what Olmsted and Vaux, the creators of Central Park, considered their finest achievement.

Joe Pino Organ Trio
When: Saturday, May 3, 9pm
Where: Tea Lounge, 837 Union Street
What: Hear Joe Pino, trumpet, teacher/educator, and endorsed Adams Flugelhorn Artist, who started playing trumpet at the age of 10, and who’s performed with many great musicians and bands including The Temptations, The Happenings, Brian Evans, and Jim Rotondi.

Food Truck Rally
When: Sunday, May 4, 11am-5pm
Where: Grand Army Plaza
What: Got a hankering for a lobster roll and an ice cream sandwich, and enjoying them al fresco in the park? The food trucks are back!
140th Kentucky Derby
When: Sunday, May 4, 1pm
Where: Union Hall, 702 Union Street
What: Races will be shown all day on the big screen (post time for the main event is 6:24pm). Plus, they’ll have a prize for the best hat, the call to post by a live bugler, games of corn hole, burgers and dogs on the grill, and $6 mint juleps.
How much: Free!
Drink, Paint, Eat!
When: Sunday, May 4, 6:30-9:30pm
Where: Canvas Wine Bar, 348 6th Street
What: Get your creativity flowing while enjoying some fine wine, treats, and tips from a local Brooklyn artist — no artistic talent is needed!
How much: $40, includes 16×20 canvas equipment and paint and a glass of Champagne.
