It’s a pretty great weekend for book-lovers, as several fantastic authors will be discussing their work in our area. Balance that out with some karaoke, dancing, live tunes, and more, and you’ve got a pretty great weekend ahead of you. Details on those events, and more, below.

Kazuo Ishiguro: The Buried Giant
When: Thursday, March 19, 7:30pm
Where: Congregation Beth Elohim, 271 Garfield Place
What: People are loving the author’s new book, which is described as “a reflection on love, aging, courage, and the rewards and punishments of memory.” He’ll be in conversation with John Freeman.
How much: Tickets start at $12 with certain discounts (attn: library card holders!), and can be applied toward a purchase of the book at Community Bookstore.

Shape Up NYC: Cardio Toning
When: Friday, March 20, 12pm
Where: Audubon Center, Prospect Park
What: Shape up your core with a free cardio class in Prospect Park that will combine strength, balance, and toning exercises. No reservation is required, but it is recommended that you bring a workout mat.
How much: Free!

Party Like It’s 1999: The Basic Instinct Of March Edition
When: Friday, March 20, 10pm
Where: The Bell House, 149 7th Street
What: Is there a better reason to dance than to celebrate the 22nd anniversary of the release of the film Basic Instinct? We didn’t think so.
How much: Free!

Introduction To Birdwatching
When: Saturday, March 21, 12pm
Where: Audubon Center, Prospect Park
What: Take a tour with the Brooklyn Bird Club to learn about the 250 species of birds that call Prospect Park home.
How much: Free!

Gotham: New York City’s Best Writers: Phil Klay
When: Saturday, March 21, 4pm
Where: Central Library, Dweck Center, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: Gotham Series host Rob Spillman will speak with Phil Klay, whose 2014 short story collection Redeployment was shortlisted for the Frank O’Connor Prize and won the National Book Award for Fiction.
How much: Free, but RSVP to make sure you get a seat.

The Cynical Bastard Comedy Hour And Ten Minutes
When: Saturday, March 21, 8pm
Where: Dizzy’s, 230 5th Avenue
What: Local comedian Phil Gable presents this new comedy show, saying it was a combination of fluffy pancakes and amazing Park Slope performers that inspired the choice in venue.
How much: $7 in advance, $10 at the door.

Delicious Foods: James Hannaham
When: Sunday, March 22, 1pm
Where: Central Library, Dweck Center, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: Neighbor and BuzzFeed Books editor Isaac Fitzgerald will chat with the author about his new novel, which has been getting excellent reviews — and features crack (yes, the drug) as a character.
How much: Free, but RSVP to make sure you get a seat.

Jim Campilongo & Honeyfingers
When: Sunday, March 19, 7pm
Where: Barbes, 376 9th Street
What: The country-jazz guitarist has teamed up with pedal steel player Jonny Lam and his group Honeyfingers, and they’ll be rocking a repertoire of country-jazz.
How much: $10 strongly suggested donation.
