It’s a weekend jam-packed with some interesting events in our neighborhood, from a chance to taste some home-brewed beer, to a performance by a Detroit soul legend, to an opera in a local church. Details on those, and more:

Knights Of Bruklyn Quarterly Home Brew Competition
When: Thursday, January 15, 7pm
Where: Union Hall, 702 Union Street
What: See what some home brewers are up to and sample what they’ve been making! Judges at this quarterly competition will pick the top three brews, but not before you get a taste.
How much: Free!

New Yorker Magazine Discussion Group
When: Friday, January 16, 1pm
Where: Central Library, InfoCommons Room 4, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: Dying to find someone else who actually finishes reading their copy of the New Yorker magazine each week? This discussion group meets monthly to discuss selections from the magazine, with responsibility for selecting the readings rotating among group members. Maybe Monday
When: Friday, January 16, 8pm
Where: Brooklyn Colony, 274 4th Avenue
What: The Brooklyn-based cover band, which features Joseph Ciresi on guitar, Joseph Anastasi on bass, Larry Parente on drums, and Charlie Kay on lead vocals, brings a rocking range of styles to 4th Avenue, from pop to soul to country and even disco.
How much: No cover.

The Memory Project: Art Workshop
When: Saturday, January 17, 10:30am
Where: Central Library, Room 214, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: In this intergenerational creative art project for anyone from age 11 and up, the Memory Project will present an intimate history of the Holocaust through the lens of one family, and then the workshops will lead you to explore your own personal history through art and story.
How much: Free, but registration is required.

Exhibition Tour: Documents From Greenham Common Women’s Peace Camp
When: Saturday, January 17, 3pm
Where: Interference Archive, 131 8th Street #4
What: Join exhibition organizers Susan Jahoda and Emma Jahoda-Brown to tour the show, which displays pieces from the 19-year anti-nuclear protest and encampment at the U.S. Military Base at Greenham Common, Berkshire County, England, which is on display at the Archive through March 1.
How much: Free!

Verdi’s Rigoletto
When: Saturday, January 17 & Sunday, January 18, 4pm
Where: Old First Reformed Church, 729 Carroll Street
What: Opera In The Slope presents its third production with Rigoletto. Expect a lot of dram, betrayal, vengeance, and injustice in this opera about the licentious Duke of Mantua, his jester Rigoletto, and Gilda, Rigoletto’s daughter.
How much: $22 in advance, $22 at the door.

Dig Deeper Presents: Billy Prince Of The Precisions
When: Saturday, January 17, 9pm
Where: Littlefield, 622 Degraw Street
What: Detroit legend Billy Prince of the Precisions, backed by the Brooklyn Rhythm Band, comes to our area with his incredible brand of 1960s soul.
How much: $15 in advance, $20 at the door.

After The Holidays E-Waste Collection
When: Sunday, January 18, 10am-4pm
Where: Prospect Park, 3rd Street entrance
What: You can drop off both working and non-working electronics at the 3rd Street entrance to the park on Prospect Park West, and LES Ecology Center will take them off your hands for either refurbishing or recycling. Birding: Winter Birds
When: Sunday, January 18, 11am
Where: Audubon Center, Prospect Park
What: Urban Park Rangers will be on hand to guide you to the best wildlife viewing spots in our urban jungle. All skill levels — including beginners — are welcome.
How much: Free!
