Kings Of Karaoke
When: Thursday, February 19, 10:30pm
Where: The Rock Shop, 249 4th Avenue
What: Boy is it freakin’ cold, so hit the bar and choose something with a chilly edge to sing — maybe Foreigner’s Cold as Ice? Hazy Shade of Winter by the Bangles? A little song and drink is sure to help warm you up!
How much: Free!

Open House & Reception: Digital Being Installation By Taezoo Park
When: Friday, February 20, 11am-8pm
Where: Lower East Side Ecology Center, E-Waste Warehouse, 469 President Street
What: Their first artist-in-residence Taezoo Park is showing his work in the warehouse, which he describes as “kinetic installations of technological garbage based on the hypothetical existence of an invisible and formless creature born within the circuits of electronic waste.” Check it out from 11am to 5pm, with staff giving tours at 1pm and 3pm, and an informal reception from 6-8pm.
How much: Free!

What: If you’ve been curious about this new Gowanus curiosity museum, this weekend is a great chance to check it out — they’re celebrating their new cafe from Black Gold by opening the galleries to the public, complete with special tours. But don’t forget to come back later — there’s also a free party on Saturday night from 8-11pm, with a magic show and a special musical guest.

Gotham: New York City’s Best Writers: Richard Ford
When: Saturday, February 21, 4pm
Where: Central Library, Dweck Center, 10 Grand Army Plaza
What: If you’re into the suburban ennui of The Sportswriter and Independence Day, you’ll be glad to know author Richard Ford has brought back his character Frank Bascombe to tackle life after Hurricane Sandy. Hear the Pulitzer Prize winner read from his new book, Let Me Be Frank with You, after which he’ll be joined in conversation by Rob Spillman, co-founder and editor of Tin House.

Carnegie Hall Neighborhood Concert Series: Calder Quartet
When: Sunday, February 22, 4pm

Academy Awards Screening Party
When: Sunday, February 22, 6pm

Looking for other spots to see the Oscars — check out this list of bars hosting screenings in South Slope!
How much: Free, but first-come, first-served, so RSVP and show up early to guarantee entrance!
