Park Slope Is Back in Business

Park Slope Is Back in Business

The hurricane has passed, and while Park Slope got off a lot easier than New York City’s coastal areas, Sandy didn’t leave the neighborhood unscathed.

Some trees, which had survived 2010’s massive snowstorms, 2011’s hurricane Irene, and a couple of tornadoes thrown in here and there, failed to make it through the latest weather anomaly. The one above was one blocking 2nd Street between 7th and 8th Avenues.

Most businesses were open.  Restaurants were doing very nicely. Lunchtime saw many at capacity. Japanese restaurant Yamato even (perhaps optimistically) kept its patio open, for those willing to have their saki sipping interrupted by the occasional heavy rain. A dozen people stood in line for a cup of joe at Cafe Grumpy.

The construction site at David’sTea was not as fortunate as some.

Interestingly, most of the open shops were local. Many of the chain stores, from Barnes & Noble to Bank of America, were closed. In the late afternoon, Five Guys and Bareburger looked about ready to reopen.

Anyone head out to shop or eat today? What did you find open?
