PACC Rebrands Itself As IMPACCT Brooklyn And Opens A Bed-Stuy Office
Instead of being nicknamed PACC, the Pratt Area Community Council has rebranded itself as IMPACCT Brooklyn and moved its main office to Crown Heights, at 1000 Dean Street, Suite 420. The housing advocacy group has also moved its community organizing department to Bed-Stuy, at a storefront office space at 1124 Fulton Street.
The goal of the flurry of changes is to “allow [IMPACCT Brooklyn] to provide more comprehensive services to homebuyers, tenants and business owners, with many of the core programs in one location,” they said in a statement.
As noted earlier this year, the Fort Greene office at 201 DeKalb Avenue will remain open as administrative offices, as the group also owns the building. The staff
of the Finance, Housing Development and Operations Departments will be housed on the first two floors, as per usual, and they are negotiating a lease with local entrepreneurs for the first two floors, according to Deborah Howard, executive director.Explaining the move, Howard stated that “We see Crown Heights and Central Brooklyn as the next battleground for gentrification and landlord abuse of tenants. This area is ground zero for the push to keep Brooklyn affordable for residents who are fearful that the rapid wave of gentrification and displacement that occurred in Clinton Hill and Bedford Stuyvesant is headed their way.”
Anyone curious about the changes can visit the new main office at 1000 Dean Street at any time, although they have an open house this coming Saturday, November 14, from 12-3pm, when they will promote new workshops and other resources available, such as financial education, affordable housing lottery tips, and more.
