Out With Brunch, In With Lunch: Martha’s Debuts New Weekend Lunch Menu
Here’s something for those experiencing brunch-fatigue: a return to lunch, complete with fanfare, mouthwatering dishes, and even a new happy hour menu, courtesy of Martha!
The popular restaurant at 184 DeKalb Avenue features market- and seasonally-inspired menus all week but has now decided to swap out weekend brunch for a weekend lunch menu that “ditches familiar brunch dishes in favor of sandwich fare that can still satisfy the cravings of even the most loyal brunch-goer.”
The new menu features dishes such as the Roti John — a Malaysian street-food-inspired scallion, chive, and lap cheong omelet packed with pickled jalapenos, cilantro, smoked paprika aioli, and sambal in a brioche long roll — and the drool-worthy Sweet Thing — a riff on French Toast with bittersweet ancho-chili-chocolate spread between thick slices of pain du mie that is then battered, fried, and glazed with spiced condensed milk and orange zest.
Explaining the reason for ditching brunch for lunch, owner Melissa Gorman said that “there can be a mimosa-and-benedict expectation tied to the meal we call Brunch. We wanted to free ourselves up and offer the neighborhood a more relaxed vibe and menu. Rather than keep trying to stretch the boundaries within brunch, we. . . changed it up and went for it.”
As an added bonus, Gorman noted, “lunch is just more our speed. We like sleeping in.”
Other menu items include the Sloppy Josephine five-spice lamb sloppy joe with an egg on top, the Hot Chick fried chicken thigh sandwich with honey and buttermilk slaw, Po’ Bao fried oyster sandwich, and seasonal salads such as a Thai Egg or Vermicelli with Shrimp.
Now for that Weekend Happy Hour: from 4-6pm, diners can get two Evil Twin tallboy cans for $8 and a rotating selection of $3 house-blended amaro shots.
