Our Favorite Chocolatey Dishes Around Ditmas Park

mimi's market punchim

A few of you around here have noticed our propensity for baked goods, but nothing satisfies our sweet tooth like a good hunk of chocolate. Here are some of our top cocoa-filled treats around the neighborhood, some discussed in previous posts and some totally new to the site–what are yours?

Punchim from Mimi’s Market

Market‘s petite powerhouses are crazy fudgy, and rolled in shredded coconut for that little extra something. They look easy enough to eat in one sitting, but don’t fool yourself–you’re going to need a friend, a few days, and a large glass of milk. 1209 Cortelyou Road between Westminster and Argyle Roads.

Chocolate Covered Oreos from John’s Bakery

These are like the piggiest of all piggy treats, but the coat of dark, milk, or white chocolate just keeps the cookies inside so moist and delicious. It’s like triple decker indulgence at John’s. Eat your vegetables first. 1322 Cortelyou Road on the corner of Rugby Road.

Nine Chains Grasshopper Cookies

Nine Chains‘ chocolate mint wonders (bottom left) are less classic cookie, and more like a cookie and a brownie had an overachieving bundle of joy. They’re crusty on the outside but melt like butter in your mouth, have a lovely refreshing flavor, and are made with all natural ingredients to boot. 1111 Church Avenue between Stratford and Westminster Roads.

Cannoli at Lea

One of our few redeeming health habits has been a general distaste for cannoli, but now it seems like we might have just trying the wrong ones. Lea‘s Chef Daniel Soskolen makes these ones, which are fresh with flaky dough, just a touch of bittersweet chocolate, and a little orange to cap it all off. 1022 Cortelyou Road on the corner of Stratford Road.

Ovenly Salted Vegan Chocolate Chip Cookies

lark vegan cookie

They’re not made in this part of Brooklyn, but both Lark and Cafe Madeline have deemed them good enough to put on the menu. They’re dense with a little sweetness, plus that nice coarse sprinkle of sea salt on top–an absolute party for the tastebuds and texture eaters alike. Lark is located at 1007 Church Avenue between E 10th Street and Stratford Road; Cafe Madeline is at  1603 Cortelyou Road between E 16th and E 17th Streets.

Chocolate Toast with Sea Salt Butter at The Farm on Adderley

Like the cookies above, this dish at The Farm makes the most of all things sweet and savory. Served warm and not overwhelmingly chocolatey (for the crazies who prefer it that way), this starter is one of the most perfect comfort foods we’ve ever tried. Oh, and you can get it at Nine Chains, too. 1108 Cortelyou Road between Stratford and Westminster Roads.

Vegan Goodies at Coffee Mob

coffee mob vegan and gluten free pastries

Coffee Mob gets their vegan options from Clinton Hill’s Clementine Bakery, who like to send something a little different in every order. If you’re lucky though (and early!), you can probably catch one of their brownies or yummy chocolate cupcakes. 1514 Newkirk Avenue on the corner of E 16th Street.

Nutella and Banana Crepes at La Crepe et la Vie

To be honest, we’ve never met a Nutella-base food we didn’t like, and La Crepe et la Vie owner Konstantino serves up his up in some lovely featherlight packages. If you’re not into bananas, you can choose strawberries with some powdered sugar instead. 1715 Foster Avenue between E 17th and E 18th Streets.

Spicy Chocolate Goodies from Salud and The Castello Plan

Salud Hot Chocolate Mix

You know Mary’s crazy about the hot hot cocoa from Salud on Avenue H, which you can get to go or purchase by the bag and which is perfect for this time of year. As for the warmer months, The Castello Plan serves spicy chocolate gelato made just for the brave. Salud is located at 1308 Avenue H between E 13th and E 14th Streets; The Castello Plan is at 1213 Cortelyou Road between Westminster and Argyle Roads.

Ox Cart Tavern’s Gelato Sundae

Speaking of gelato, Ox Cart proves it’s more than just a one trick cow–er, pony–with this towering treat. The sundae features homemade fudge alongside its maraschino cherries, nuts, whipped cream, and bourbon caramel, but if the fudge isn’t enough, you can order it with chocolate scoops too. 583 Argyle Road on the corner of Newkirk Avenue.

We think those are some of the greats. We’re always up for trying new and more chocolate, though, so can you recommend any good ones we might have missed?
