Opening Day in Prospect Park

Opening Day in Prospect Park

This Saturday, MLB hopefuls will parade down 7th Avenue in Park Slope in honor of Opening Day in Prospect Park. Many Ditmas Park youths will be marching (including mine). The parade starts promptly at 10am at 1st Street and 7th Ave, then continues up 7th to 9th Street, where ball players will march into the Park. The ceremonial first pitch will be held at the Bandshell.

If you want your child to play baseball or softball next year, early registration starts around October. Spaces are typically full by January. Set your calendars to check the SFX website or the 78th Precinct website.

Tips for Saturday:
If you must go to Park Slope, take the Q or F.
If you must drive, avoid 7th Avenue between 1st Street and 9th Street.
If you want to view the parade, arrive before 10am.

For parents of young baseball and softball players:
Arrive at 9:15am and find your team.
Pack a snack, sunblock, and mittens. It could be hot or cold.
Also pack the baseball glove, baseball hat, and coach’s mobile number.
