Open Thread Mondays: Best Halloween Movies

I like scary movies. I lean towards the cerebral or the realistic, rather than the absurd slasher – but there’s a place in my heart for them, too. So, in honor of the upcoming holiday, I’m crowd-sourcing my mandatory Halloween horror movie marathon.

What sort of movies do I like? I think 28 Days Later is one of the best zombie movies ever made, as is Quarantine

(though not technically zombies). I think

Hostel is silly. I like blood and gore, but not nonsense like Scream. The Blair Witch Project made me uncomfortable, which is a good thing, but the style is overplayed these days. The Shining, The Excorcist and Hellraiser are awesome. Some of the Japanese movies are good, such as The Ring, including their American remakes.

So now you’ve got a good idea for the sort of stuff I like. Give me five movies I should watch this week to get ready for All Hallows’ Eve.
