Some good news: the terms of the lease for 966-972 Fulton Street, which houses the Young Minds Day Care and Grace Agard Harewood Senior Center, have been settled upon and signed. However, the lease itself has not been signed yet, for reasons unknown.

According to Councilmember Laurie Cumbo’s office, “the term sheet was signed at the beginning of August” and expectation is that the lease will be signed in “early September,” once the landlord finishes making some repairs.

We don’t know yet what the terms of the lease are or how long the lease is for, but there reportedly won’t be any interruption in service.

When reached by phone at the center, a representative of the lease holder, Fort Greene Council, said they hadn’t been aware of any movement on the lease’s status, which has been in limbo since expiring earlier this year, although it has been renewed on a month-by-month basis since.

The news — first reported by DNAInfo — comes after months of protests and rallies in support of renewing the lease at 966-972 Fulton Street, by parents, seniors, children, concerned neighbors, and pretty much every local official around, including Public Advocate Letitia James, Congressmember Hakeem Jeffries, Assemblymember Walter Mosley, and Community Board 2.

Money has reportedly also been redirected from other neighboring districts to help keep the centers open until a lease agreement can hopefully be worked out, according to Cumbo. Elected officials who have given money include Councilmembers Inez Barron, Robert Cornegy, and Jumaane Williams.

We’ll let you know as soon as we hear of any more updates on the day care and senior center.
