One Person In Custody Following Incident That Closed Atlantic Avenue & Court Street For Hours

COBBLE HILL/BOERUM HILL – The NYPD closed the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and Court Street to pedestrians and drivers Tuesday morning after receiving reports of an armed individual in the vicinity.

According to a tweet posted by the 76th Precinct at approximately 9:30am, some locals believed there was a shooter inside the Trader Joe’s at 130 Court Street. “There is NOT an active shooter at Trader Joe’s. This was a false report,” the precinct advised.

At approximately 2:30pm, the 76th Precinct posted another tweet stating that the situation had been resolved. An NYPD representative said that one person was “in custody without incident” but would not provide any further information.

An “emotionally disturbed” individual had barricaded themselves inside an apartment at 125 Court Street (just north of Atlantic), according to Patch. The individual reportedly had a gun and a baseball bat but was speaking to responding officers, according to the article.

We will update when additional information becomes available.
