One Dead After 20th Avenue Car Collision

An early Wednesday morning accident between Jeep Cherokee and a private sanitation truck left one person dead. John Larocca, 45, a passenger in the SUV, was pronounced dead after the collision.

He was a half a block from his home.

The accident occurred between 20th Avenue and 61st Street a little after 2:15 a.m. The garbage truck was knocked on its side by the force of the collision.

The driver of the SUV was taken to Maimonides Medical Center, where he was later arrested on suspicion of driving drunk, according to DNA Info.

He was charged with manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide and driving while intoxicated, among other charges.

The sanitation workers were treated at Lutheran Medical Center and are in stable condition.
