Officials marked the opening of the new Midwood Library Plaza on Tuesday morning. Council member David Greenfield, Brooklyn Public Library President Linda Johnson, NYC Department of Design and Construction Assistant Commissioner Oscar Gonzales, and Community Board 14 Chairman Alvin Berk were all in attendance.

The plaza was made possible by $250,000 in funds secured by Council member Greenfield. Neighbors can now enjoy the outdoor plaza in front of the Midwood Library at East 16th Street and Avenue J, which is also now open on Sundays.

“Libraries are one of the greatest public resources we have. I am proud to invest in our libraries and especially pleased to be opening this beautiful plaza on the heels of new Sunday services at this library,” said Councilman Greenfield.

“The Midwood Library plaza will be a community gathering space for patrons at one of Brooklyn’s busiest branches,” said Brooklyn Public Library President and CEO Linda Johnson. “We’re grateful to Council Member David Greenfield for helping Brooklyn Public Library improve a beloved neighborhood institution.”
