Officers Kelly Brown and Doris Cordero of the 78th Precinct were in their patrol car when someone stopped them to help a woman who was in distress near Flatbush Junction on Monday, according to the NYPD.

The officers got out of their car and saw the woman “with the baby dangling from her,” the NYPD told DNAinfo.

According to the NYPD’s Facebook page,

Officer Brown ran across the street and began to help the 34-year-old woman who was in active labor. Officer Brown observed the baby, who was now on the sidewalk, and quickly picked her up to ensure she was breathing properly. The mother was holding onto Officer Brown for support while Officer Cordero was keeping the baby warm with her coat.

EMS soon arrived and took the mother and her newborn to Kings County Hospital, where both were in good condition, police said.

Police Commissioner Bill Bratton congratulated the two officers on Twitter, saying, “Nice job Officers Brown & Cordero. From protecting NYC to delivering babies, .”
