NYPD Deputy Commissioner Promises To Investigate Tickets Being Doled Out To Neighbors Walking Through Parade Grounds After Dark

After we wrote about neighbor Geoffrey being ticketed for being in the Parade Grounds after dark – something which a number of commenters said that they’d experienced recently – a top-level member of the NYPD said he would investigate the matter.

Deputy Commissioner Zach Tumin’s statement was in response to a tweet on Saturday from neighbor Ben Smith about Geoffrey’s account of being ticketed for walking home through the Parade Grounds at night – something which he noted he has done for years but has never before been ticketed. Geoffrey, and a number of commenters, pointed out the lack of signage about the hours of operation at the Parade Grounds.

The police leader tweeted that he had read the comments on the story and emphasized the importance of feedback from the community, stating:

For those who wish to further address concerns about this matter, the 70th Precinct Community Council is holding a meeting this Wednesday, September 10, at 7:30pm. The meeting will be held at 175 Lawrence Avenue. All members of the public are welcome to attend.
