NYPD: Death In Coney Island An “Apparent Suicide”

The grisly death of a 33-year-old man who plummeted off a Coney Island apartment building yesterday morning is an “apparent suicide,” the New York Police Department told Bensonhurst Bean this morning.

“There appears to be no criminality, and the NYPD does not release information about cases in which there is no criminality,” a spokesperson said this morning. “There were no arrests and no suspects.”

The spokesperson stopped short of saying definitively that it was a suicide, as the Medical Examiner’s office is responsible for confirming the cause of death.

Bensonhurst Bean reported on the man’s death yesterday. After falling from the roof or top floors of Trump Village Building 5 at West 5th Street and Neptune Avenue, rumors suggested it was a suicide, though some also suggested a murder-suicide – a claim now refuted by the NYPD.

In comments on the earlier article, readers identified the man as William “Billy” Kramer, an avid bowler and staple at Shell Lanes.

On Kramer’s Facebook page, friends and loved ones continue to express their grief, and share memories of bowling with the Lincoln High School alum.

“R.I.P. bro, you were a great guy and a great teammate,” one friend wrote on Kramer’s Facebook wall. “today is a very sad day, but I will always remember the great bowling nights we had lol, we will miss u and … we love you”
