A Kid’s Dream Hair Salon & Spa (549 Myrtle Avenue at Emerson Place) officially opened for business on Saturday, July 26. The salon offers children the full-service salon experience, from haircuts, braids and blowouts, to manicures, pedicures and facials—all in a fun, interactive, and kid-focused setting.

A Kid’s Dream is the creation of Sharon Doldron, a Brooklyn native and former New York City public school teacher who wanted to combine her love of working with children with her passion for beauty and fashion. Part of her inspiration for the establishment was wanting to share a salon experience with her six-year-old daughter–often, she says, she found adult salons were not especially welcoming of younger customers, and sometimes the atmosphere wasn’t appropriate for children. She sensed that there was a market in Brooklyn for a kid-friendly salon and spa.

“This is where we need it!” she says. “There are too many kids right here in this neighborhood who want the same experience.”

Her shop is not just a place to pamper children, however–it’s to educate them as well.

“I don’t want us to only cater to the outside,” she said. “I want us to also cater to the inside. So we’re not just looking at their hair and their nails and their toes and the body scrubs and all that–we also want to give them something that will last a little bit longer.”

To facilitate that process, Sharon and her team created the Kid’s Lounge where children can play games or work on craft projects as part of their appointment. During the school year, Sharon says, more of the focus will be on academic activities.

Services at A Kid’s Dream range from a $13 manicure all the way up to a full head of braids and a Triple—manicure, pedicure and facial—which will put you into the three digit range. Party packages are also available.

“We welcome everybody who comes through our doors,” said Doldron. “And we’re hoping to have a long span here. A long span.”

A Kid’s Dream is open Tuesday through Thursday from 12-6 pm, Friday from 12-8 pm, Saturday from 8am-8pm, and Sunday from 8am-6pm. You can visit A Kid’s Dream online, call 800-927-1373, or just drop by in person and maybe stay for a candy facial.
