Now Closed: Uncle Arthur’s Cafe
Closed: The Soup Bowl

Seven months after opening on 9th Street, Uncle Arthur’s Cafe has closed for good.

Despite a sign on the door of 237 9th Street, just off 4th Avenue, promising they’re closed for renovations, owner Richard Gussoff tells us the coffee shop and restaurant, which was named for his uncle and opened in April, will not reopen. Gussoff, who also runs the seasonal shop The Soup Bowl at 319 7th Avenue, says his original plans were to have his business partner run Uncle Arthur’s when he brought The Soup Bowl back for the winter, but the partner “is unable to make that commitment.”

Gussoff says he’s closed the space so that he can devote his time his two young sons and to The Soup Bowl, which he plans to reopen by the end of the month.
