Now Closed: The Walk-In Cookbook
The Walk-In Cookbook, the conceptual food/recipe shop at 72 7th Avenue, closed on Monday after just six months in the space. They sent out this note yesterday:
We have enjoyed providing you with our recipe offering hoping to have brought something new and different to your dinner table. Unfortunately, we are unable to make our concept work in brick and mortar and we are closing the store today. We would like to thank you for your support, it has been a pleasure getting to know many of you. Our best wishes to you and your families for a great 2014.
The shop opened in August, and when we stopped in to check it out and try out a recipe for fish tacos back then, co-founder Filip Nuytemans said they were diving in and trying things out to see what would work.
“We’re trying to see how our concept will play with the Park Slope crowd,” Filip told us in August. “It’s our very first store and we want to see — what do people like, what do we need to improve, what do we need to offer, what do we take out.”
They definitely tried a number of fun ideas, like starting up a series of classes and a home cooking vs. pizza challenge, but it seems like it wasn’t enough to make the concept survive in this space. Best of luck to Filip and the rest of the staff on their future endeavors!
