Have You Noticed Gas Prices Are Up?
While it looks like gas prices in Brooklyn have not been impacted as much as the rest of the city, they are up since Hurricane Harvey affected production in Texas, home to about 1/3 of our country’s refining capacity, at the end of August.
Much of the are saw an almost 14% increase in rates in early September, according to GasBuddy – an app that tracks user submitted data. According to them, last time we had rates this high was two years back in early July of 2015:
AAA agrees, though notes that while prices have been inching down in the last week, New York still ranks among top 10, and that “it will likely be a few more weeks before the regions affected by Irma and Harvey are back to normal operations”.
Here is what the gas stations were charging in Brooklyn this morning:
The app averaged the NYC rate to $2.90 per gallon of regular gas, by the looks of it, Brooklyn average is closer to $2.70, still up at 2015 levels.
