The flag at Newkirk’s post office isn’t looking quite as tattered as it did a couple of months ago but it’s still torn and faded. Is it strange that I’m growing fond of the flag? When the wind is blowing as hard as it was today, it can still manage to look pretty good.

In the contest of most obliterated flag in the neighborhood, Newkirk’s Old Glory had competition from Coney Island Avenue United Medical Center up until several weeks ago. A cut up flag was replaced with bright new stars and stripes just in time for the annual Pakistani Day parade and the TV cameras the cover it.
