Suspicious Package At Avenue H, Subway Service Being Restored

Neighbor Matthew Schuerman sent us a picture of the suspicious package near the Avene H station. Meanwhile, regular subway service is being restored but will have residual delays.

UPDATE 9:52am: Inside the Newkirk Avenue Station

Neighbor Michael McWatters says the MTA booth operator isn’t telling anyone what’s going on, “isn’t authorized to make an announcement.” He pointed out that people are still going through turnstiles, and she said, “That’s their problem.”

UPDATE 9:34am: All B and Q subway service is being affected. Via MTA.info:

For the B:
Due to a police investigation at Avenue H, trains are running via the N line from Coney Island-Stillwell Av to DeKalb Av in both directions and there is no B train in both directions between Brighton Beach and Broadway-Lafayette St.
For the Q:
Due to a police investigation at Avenue H, the following service changes are in effect:
There is no B train in both directions between Brighton Beach and 145 St.
Northbound Q trains are running on the N line from Coney Island-Stillwell Av to DeKalb Av and southbound Q trains are running on the D line fromDeKalb Av to Coney Island-Stillwell Av.
Allow additional travel time.

9:30am: The Avenue H subway is currently closed, as is the walkway underneath it, apparently due to a report of a suspicious package nearby.

Trains are also stopped at Newkirk, though more commuters are being allowed through the turnstiles.

We have contacted the 70th Precinct and are waiting for more information.
