New York Kids Club Getting Closer to Opening in Former Southpaw Space
Bright, colorfully slick posters announce the imminent arrival of Park Slope’s own New York Kids Club at 125 5th Avenue. The space, once occupied by the soulful music venue Southpaw (and before that, by a 99 cent store), will be reopening on January 15, 2013, almost a full year after Southpaw shut its doors. Offerings will include baby music, gymnastics, martial arts, non-martial arts, dance, cooking, camp, preschool, theater, kids’ parties, an indoor playground, and family programs.
Will the 5,000-square-foot space be able to fit all this? They say there will be “eight premier classrooms, two state-of-the-art gyms, a culinary institute, a dance studio, and an outdoor rooftop play space,” so perhaps. The plywood that’s been covering the storefront the past few months is too high to peer over, so it’s anyone’s guess. They are, however, already taking registrations for their preschool classes. Call 718-228-0800 or email parkslope@nykidsclub.com for more info.
Those mourning the replacement of more adult-centric space with an incredibly kid-friendly one may take consolation: New York Kids Club promises to offer adult seminars as well.
