Friends and neighbors, there’s no need to crowd into Times Square to watch a ball drop! Go Brooklyn this New Year’s Eve and make your way to Prospect Park for their annual fireworks display.

Starting at 11pm, there will be hot chocolate and music at Grand Army Plaza, and before the clock strikes midnight, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz will hand over the reins to Borough President-Elect Eric Adams.

If you plan on arriving right before the midnight show, Prospect Park suggests watching from anywhere in Grand Army Plaza, inside the Park on the West Drive, and along Prospect Park West between Grand Army Plaza and 9th Street.

Want to really ring in 2014 on a high note? Register for Prospect Park’s only nighttime race, the New Year’s Eve 5K, which starts at 11:15pm. Runners, walkers, and families are welcome. Glow necklaces will be handed out to all participants, and the first 400 registrants will receive long sleeved race shirts. The first 200 runners will also receive a gift from Sketchers, and the first male and female finishers will receive a Sketchers shoe certificate.

Packet pick-up begins at 10:15pm inside Prospect Park entrance at 9th Street. Registration is $30 through December 30, and $40 on race day.
