Who’s ready to ring in the new year with reckless abandon?! We know we are–but in case you find yourself needing to eat, drink, travel, or buy toilet paper tonight or tomorrow, it’s probably best to keep these holiday changes in mind.

Government Offices, Parking, and Sanitation

Government offices, including the Department of Motor Vehicles, are closed. Courts are also closed. There is no mail delivery.

Public schools are closed for winter break, and will reopen on Thursday, January 2.

On Wednesday, January 1, alternate side parking is suspended. You don’t need to pay parking meters. No stopping, no standing and no parking regulations are suspended except where those regulations are in effect seven days a week or at all times.

There is no garbage or recycling pick-up. If Wednesday is your regular garbage or recycling collection day, put your items out after 4pm Wednesday evening.

New York City subways and buses and the Staten Island railway will operate on a Sunday schedule (which means no B train), with longer waits on some bus routes on January 1. For NYE travel info, see this post on Kensington BK.
