The cuisine of Uzbekistan — and the romance of the Silk Road — have a new home on Coney Island Avenue.

Uzbeki restaurant Samir, which is on Coney Island Avenue near Avenue C, has recently opened.

The restaurant is finalizing its menu but owner Danny Azizov showed us a preliminary version. Expect both Uzbeki and Russian dishes — a wide range of kebabs, boiled dumplings, herring with boiled potatoes, cow tongue, grilled fish, and feta with lemon are just a few of the items on offer.

Azizov came to the U.S. a few years ago from the ancient Uzbeki city of Samarkand, which is located on the Silk Road — the famous trade route linking China to the Mediterranean. Samarkand is also known for its historic mosques and mausoleums.

We are very excited to sample Samir’s menu, and learn more about Samarkand and Uzbekistan.

Samir is open seven days a week for lunch and dinner. It’s located at 696 Coney Island Avenue. Phone: (347) 318-3010.
