The School Construction Authority plans to build a new 72-seat pre-K school on 25th Street (between 4th & Fifth Avenues) to help cover the lack of seats in early education facilities in District 15 which spans from Cobble Hill to Sunset Park.

The Little Brooklyn Pre-K Center will be one of 66 sites in the district where 4-year-olds can attend free early childhood programs.

Scheduled to open in September, right in time for the new school year, the Center will have four classes consisting of 18 students.

The news of the addition of much-needed pre-K seats was announced shortly after the 100-year-old, kindergarten – eighth grade, Catholic school, St. Agatha, revealed it would be shutting down at the end of June due to low enrollment.

The city is considering replacing the private school, located at 736 48th Street, with a public one, in an effort to ease the overcrowding in neighboring PS 94 and PS 169.

According to the Brooklyn Paper, District 15 is approximately 2,600 students over capacity, with 32,600 students currently enrolled in its public schools.
