New Map Shows Most Toxic Spots Around Ditmas Park

Does it feel like the pigeons around your building keep getting bigger, or the raccoons keep growing more legs? If so, it may have something to do with this new map from Property Shark, which plots all the terrible, toxic occurrences on record across New York City.

As it turns out, our area is a hotbed of tank test failures (what’s the deal, Cortelyou to Dorchester from Argyle to E 19th?) with a sprinkling of spills, tank failures, hazardous waste violations, and E Designations. Yum!

There are a few relatively-clean enclaves, though–like basically all of Ditmas Avenue from Coney Island Avenue to Flatbush (and much of each intersecting block heading north, although, again, Dorchester’s a little worrisome), and much of Midwood Park and Fiske Terrace.

Explore the map to see how your block fares, and whether you need to go all Erin Brockovich.
