New Local LGBTQ to Host First Informal Monthly Social Hour

Neighbor Sarah Jenny recently started a new group on Facebook, South Brooklyn Queers, for those who identify as LGBTQ and live in Ditmas Park and surrounding neighborhoods.

“Without nearby formal community spaces, I thought it was important to carve out some time for folks to get to know their neighbors and make new friends and more,” she said. “The group has thus far been used to find restaurants and bars with gender neutral bathrooms, how to negotiate a lease when you have a name change, find queer or queer-friendly roommates, and where to access queer-friendly holistic health care nearby.”

The people in the group so far are in their 20s and 30s, but they’re welcoming of people of all ages.

They’re aiming to have an informal, monthly social hour at a bar that will rotate between nearby neighborhoods including Ditmas Park, Kensington, Windsor Terrace, Park Slope, and Sunset Park. The first event is on Friday, March 22 at 9pm at Sycamore.

See the Facebook event page here — as of this post, 37 people have already said they’re going, plus 12 maybes, so it should be a fun crowd.
