New Little Free Library On 14th Street
Avid readers in the neighborhood just got a great new place to find — and leave — books!
A neighbor recently installed the 14th Street Little Free Library, located between 5th and 6th Avenues, and not only is it adorable (great paint job!), it’s a super handy spot for dropping off old tomes and finding new-to-you ones.
While the Slope has an excellent library and super bookstores, it is also definitely one of the best neighborhoods for finding books left thoughtfully on stoops for the taking. However, when it rains, those damp reads lose their appeal. So the concept of the Little Free Library — of which there are several in the North Slope — is awesome, with books kept dry, and a system of trust that if you see a book you want to take, you’ll drop one (at least!) off in return.
This one is particularly handy for those who remember (and miss) the Book X Change on 5th.
For more info on the Little Free Library, which started in 2009, check out their website, which includes instructions on how to build your own. And if you know of any others (or add one) in the neighborhood, let us know where it is in the comments!
