New Guards for PS 217 Trees
Earlier this week, the city unexpectedly installed these lovely tree guards around the newly-planted trees on Coney Island Avenue in front of PS 217. Maria Newsom-Fahey, a 217 parent who has been actively working to help out these trees and had been lobbying the city to install some guards, writes:
I also want to reassure you that we are organizing: we will water, we will weed, we will mulch; in short, we will do all in our power to make sure every newly planted sapling, on both sides of CIA between Newkirk and Foster survive the hot, nearly shadeless summer!
