New Food Co-op in the Works
We could have a new option for fresh, eco-friendly, sustainable groceries by September 2014.
Neighbors in Kensington and Windsor Terrace are creating a new food co-op.
Perhaps the proposed co-op is in response to the now resolved Walgreens/Key Food controversy; perhaps it’s just time. Regardless, at a recent meeting the core group created the Windsor Terrace Food Co-op Vision Statement and timeline.
Successful co-ops around Brooklyn, like the Flatbush Food Co-op pictured above, started out as “buying clubs.” The Windsor Terrace Food Co-op, as it’s called until members officially vote on a name, intends to do the same.
The food buying club is planned to start purchasing food in October of 2013, around the time CSAs are winding down. If you’re interested in members-only “high quality food, at reasonable prices, available on a regular basis,” sign up with the Windsor Terrace Food Co-op.
The Windsor Terrace Food Co-op is looking for more members. Contact them for more information about joining.
