New Awning For H&B Laundromat On 5th Avenue

H&B Laundromat (the H&B stands for Happy & Bright!) at 471 5th Avenue, between 10th and 11th Streets, recently updated its signage by installing a new awning, so we thought we’d take a moment to remember its old sign.

This photo by 12th St David shows the old sign, and we’d love to know if anyone in the neighborhood remembers what may have been here before the laundromat. According to public records, the building has been owned by the same family since 1985, with a mention of Happy & Bright showing up in 1986.

One of the things that made the old sign interesting is that it had a double just a couple blocks away. The sign for the laundromat at 269 13th Street, just off of 5th Avenue, which is still there, is almost identical.
