New App, SpotPog, Aims To Make Parking Easier In Brooklyn

We all know how hard it can be to park in the neighborhood, but a new app called SpotPog, which launched this week, hopes to make the struggle a bit easier.

SpotPog is launching in Park Slope, Boerum Hill, and Fort Greene to start. Drivers in these neighborhoods will be the first to be able to use the app this week before the SpotPog community expands to the rest of the city.

The app gives users 20 “pogs” upon signing up, users can then trade pogs for free parking spaces. Users gain more pogs by offering up their parking spots to other drivers as they leave. The app depends on users sharing information about parking spots with each other, so the more drivers using the app, the better it serves everyone.

Users can also post private driveways to rent out to other users. Driveway owners can set their own hourly prices and availability and the app’s technology allows driveway owners to complete transactions without even being home. If you’d rather not “rent” your driveway for a profit, users can have drivers can direct “rents” toward non-profits instead.

For the next few weeks, SpotPog is partnering with the non-profit City Harvest, which will receive $5 for every public spot created by a user who applies the CITYHARVEST code.

“Brooklyn has a serious parking problem,” Borough President Eric Adams told The Brooklyn Eagle. “We need an innovative approach to help residents find spots in their own neighborhoods, or when running errands and attending local events.”

The app is available for both iPhone and Android and can be downloaded for free here. If you are part of a non-profit or charity organization and would like to partner with SpotPog contact them at info@SpotPog.com.

So what do you think? Is this a potential solution to the continuous problem of parking in Brooklyn?
