Neptune/Sixth office building is officially open
CONEY ISLAND – Earlier this morning, a bright orange ribbon was cut in Southern Brooklyn, officially opening the new office and retail complex at 626 Sheepshead Bay Road, part of Cammeby’s Neptune/Sixth development.
This morning workers were seen putting finishing touches on the modern, seven story, 161,000 square foot facility, that will soon be home to the US Post Office, DII, I & M Liquor, Krupa Cards, and Danny’s Café Express. The building is over 50% leased.
“When we began planning Neptune Sixth three years ago, this magnificent building was not part of it. But our imperative to conduct the relocation of neighborhood retailers without the interruption of service willed this building into being,” said Jacob Cohen, executive vice president of development at Cammeby’s at the opening.
This new office building is also one of the most flood resistant in Southern Brooklyn – the entire building is elevated 4 feet and is ringed by 3 foot tall aquarium plates, complying with post-Hurricane Sandy DOB/FEMA regulations.
“The 300 feet of retail frontage is the beginning of Neptune/Sixth retail corridor, that will extend 6 city blocks at completion, from West 8th and Sheepshead Bay Road around to Neptune, and down Neptune to West 6th Street”, Cohen noted.
Work on Neptune/Sixth on the other side of the tracks is on track to be completed at the end of the year with expected opening in the 1st quarter of 2019.
The project was designed by Navid Maqami of S9 Architecture, who are also architects at another large Brooklyn development by Cammeby’s – Industry City.
Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams was represented by his Director of Business Development Josh Levin: “This is a beautiful development that serves as a keystone to revitalization of Coney Island. We have so many great assets on the waterfront – the boardwalk, the new New YorkAquarium, but this is really about the community and commercial revitalization. To have the Post Office, DII and other retail services, is a testament to Cammebys’ commitment to the community and we look forward to all the new residential development to come.”
“When you see what’s going on in the rest of New York, and here we are in South Brooklyn, at times it may seem like you are in a different city. But we are connected and we also need to have infrastructure, office buildings, retail for our residents that live here locally” said Cammeby’s principal Avi Shron. “We have invested heavily in the Coney Island neighborhood, we have apartments that were built by our President himself many, many years ago, now it’s an honor to own them and it’s an honor to be able to continue to develop and revitalize and continue on that path.”
The 626 Sheepshead Bay Road echoes the look of surrounding redbrick buildings, while offices have views of Coney Island’s Luna park, the Cyclone roller coaster, the Manhattan skyline and the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge – at least for now.
