Are you from around here?

I lived in Fort Greene for a little while – I moved out in 2009 but I still come here to hang out a lot.

What do you like to do in Fort Greene?

There’s a lot to do around here. There are a lot of really great restaurants, obviously BAM’s here and I like that, and some of my favorite places are right in this neighborhood. I really like Habana Outpost— it’s very cool. In the summer it can get crowded, which is the only downside, but it’s all outdoors and they’ve got great Cuban drinks.

I also really like The Smoke Joint – they’ve got terrific barbeque. My favorite is their pulled pork, but they’ve got a lot of really good stuff like ribs. And they’ve got amazing sides– mac and cheese, collard greens. It’s a great place to go if you’re not, you know, too worried about putting on  few pounds.

Are you a regular at BAM’s summer movie series?

I come once in a while, yeah. I either go here or to Cobble Hill.

What are you seeing tonight?

The Way, Way Back.”

Doing anything in particular to beat the heat this summer?

Sitting in front of the A/C a lot, I guess. But you get used to the summer heat when you’re from New York. There’s not much you can do about it when you have to get up and go to work every morning.

Right now I’m working at a language school. I teach English to people who come to the U.S. from other countries. And I substitute teach at Brooklyn Tech High School.

How’d you get started teaching English?

Well, I’m a certified social studies teacher and since I graduated from grad school I haven’t quite been able to find anything in that area. I moved to Miami for a while last year and I kind of just fell into the ESL thing there. Then when I came back to New York I was looking for something to do, so I found another school here pretty much doing the same kind of thing. It’s fun. You meet people from all different countries. It’s a pretty cool gig.
