Myrtle Avenue East-bound Street Closure Will Reroute Traffic Between Washington And Classon Avenues

B54 bus riders and Myrtle Avenue drivers, take note!

Beginning next Monday, March 28 until Thursday, July 28, all B54 EASTBOUND traffic along Myrtle Avenue will be re-routed between Washington and Classon Avenues. That means that if you’re heading somewhere between there on Myrtle, you’ll have to get off at Washington and walk. But if you’re heading past Classon and into Bed-Stuy, then you’ll be fine and just have a bit more of a scenic route.

Westbound B54 and vehicle traffic remains the same as now.

The eastbound bus stop will be moved just west of the Washington and Myrtle, near the liquor store. As you can see in the above map, and as explained by the Myrtle Avenue Brooklyn Partnership (MARP), the new route will:

. . . turn right off of Myrtle onto Washington Avenue, travel down Willoughby Avenue and return to Myrtle Avenue at Classon Avenue. MTA will be placing  temporary bus stops at the southwest corner of Myrtle and Washington and at the southwest corner of Willoughby and Classon.

MTA spokesperson Amanda Kwan explained that “the changes are being made to accommodate construction for the Myrtle Plaza.”

Drivers will also be affected, as this change is not just for buses, but rather is a closing of eastbound traffic to all vehicles. So all cars heading east of Washington Avenue will have to detour by turning to the right at Hall Street and then going around on Willoughby or DeKalb before heading up again to resume your route.

Businesses along Myrtle between Washington and Classon will, of course, also be affected, so make sure to walk over or order delivery from them all spring and summer long. Fortunately, these changes are happening during what should be pleasant spring weather, so walking won’t be as bad as it would have been in winter.
