MTA Won’t Extend Unlimited MetroCards Bought Before Sandy Shutdown

All the good will built up toward the MTA over the last couple of week hasn’t softened some people’s reaction to the news that the authority will not refund monthly unlimited MetroCards for the days when the subway system didn’t work, reports the New York Times.

An official with the authority, who requested anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the decision, said processing refunds would have been a logistical nightmare. The authority declined to explain the decision further.

Of course, no one is asking for an outright refund. Instead, riders are asking for an extension on unlimited cards exactly like the three-day extension they received after a 2005 transit strike. No one from the MTA has officially addressed the question yet.

Do you think an extension is due or is it an impractical “nightmare”?
