BROOKLYN QUEENS EXPRESSWAY – A New Jersey man is dead after being thrown off his motorcycle on the BQE yesterday and being hit by a vehicle which then left the scene.

At about 1 a.m. on July 4th, 37-year-old Daniel Costa was driving his motorcycle, heading east on the BQE near Exit 30 (Flushing Avenue). According to the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad, Costa was driving at “an apparent high rate of speed” and “failed to navigate the roadway.” Costa was then thrown off his motorcycle and into the middle travel lane.

Once he was on the ground, an unknown vehicle struck Costa and left the scene without stopping. Responders found the victim on the roadway unconscious and unresponsive with severe trauma to his body. EMS declared him dead at the scene.

Cops say no arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
