Monday: Auditions For Brooklyn’s 8th Annual Senior Idol

Seniors. Idols. Senior idols.

Brooklyn residents age 50 or older are invited to register and audition this Monday, September 8 at 4:00 p.m. in the Xaverian High School auditorium for Brooklyn’s 8th Annual Senior Idol, an annual contest that draws upon the talent of senior citizens of Kings County, vying to be crowned “Brooklyn’s Senior Idol” this fall.

State Senator Martin J. Golden, in partnership with Xaverian High School, is hosting the contest. Senior citizens trying out for the singing competition should bring a CD or cassette tape accompaniment. A piano is available for any contestant interested and participants are welcome to bring a guitar.

The contest finalists selected from those who audition will compete at Brooklyn’s 8th Annual Senior Idol, to be held at Xaverian High School on October 24 at 7:00 p.m. The winner will be selected through the votes of the audience and the judges.

“Every year, Brooklyn’s Senior Idol attracts great talent from our Borough and many fans show up to cheer on our contestants at the show. This year, as we set our sights on the crowning this year’s Brooklyn Senior Idol, I look forward to another successful event which has come a very popular tradition. So if you can sing, be sure to try out. And if you want to see a great show, don’t miss the show,” said Golden, in a press release.

Tickets for the event are $10 and can only be purchased at the door, with all proceeds to benefit the Xaverian High School Music Scholarship Fund and to purchase new instruments to support the Xaverian High School music program.

Xaverian High School is located at 7100 Shore Road (handicapped accessibility available at the 71st Street door).
