Two people were injured and traffic was snarled this morning when a minivan and a B103 bus collided at the intersection of Cortelyou Road and Coney Island Avenue at about 8:05am.

Neighbor Matt Landfield, who sent these pictures, tells us that from what it looked like “the driver of the van appeared to be injured but alert when the FDNY removed them from the vehicle.”

A spokesman for the FDNY tells us that two people were transported from the scene for non-life-threatening injuries, one by FDNY to Lutheran, and one by a private company to another hospital.

Buses that use that turn via Cortelyou, including the B103 and the express buses, were rerouted to Beverley.

Safety concerns about the intersection of Coney Island Avenue and Cortelyou Road have been a big issue for some time, and while Council Member Mathieu Eugene, Community Board 14, and the Department of Transportation have been looking into solutions, as of the most recent meeting about it in May, the DOT said there were few, if any, options.

If we hear anything more about today’s incident, we will update this post.
