Mexican Breakfast Spotlight: La Boulangerie Lopez
In our continuing saga to find some mighty fine Mexican food in South Slope, we stopped by La Boulangerie Lopez (647 5th Ave) this morning to give their huevos a la Mexicana a spin.
First the basics. We walked away with a to-go box of two scrambled eggs, with pico de gallo, homemade beans, green sauce, sour cream, and corn tortillas for $7.60 (including tax).
Spice-wise it was a hit. We weren’t desperately seeking bread products to ease the burn, but there was a nice enough kick that you knew you were eating Mexican food. The beans were also good, but where this one failed to impress was the soup factor. We’re not sure if it was an overabundance of melted sour cream, pico and green sauce, or if the eggs were just undercooked, but the breakfast was definitely a bit too soggy.
We’re not writing it off, though. The huevos a la Mexicana was satisfying, but just make sure that you’ve got plenty of extra tortillas to help soak up the sauce.
