Methodist Hospital Performs Poorly, May Lose Federal Funding
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has begun evaluating hospitals around the country, and it looks like New York City’s may not fare so well. The New York World reports that based on past data that analyzes patient satisfaction, local hospitals could face penalties of “up to 2 percent of their Medicare reimbursements for each patient they treat under the federal health insurance program for the elderly and disabled.”
According to the data, 86% of Medicare patients said they usually received prompt help at New York Methodist hospital, while only 52% would rate the hospital a 9 or 10 out of 10, and only 63% said they would definitely recommend the hospital. Based on those ratings, Methodist could face a 1.27% penalty to its funding reimbursements.
Hospitals will learn by the end of the month how much they may lose.
